Stop and Still: 56 hours
As part of her solo exhibition Life Maps at the Mill Adelaide Gallery, Jingwei conducted a durational performance, Stop and Still for 56 hours that is accumulated at different venues, in the form of three gestures: standing still, seating still, lying down still.
56 hours was the time Bu had been seating beside her late mother’s bed with continuous Buddhist chanting in ICU in Calvary hospital Adelaide, her last 32 hours alive, in addition to 24 hours after she passed way.
Standing still facing a corner for things she did wrong, for dropping her ego. Seating still for care and accompanying. Lying on the floor for reconnecting with ground.
Stop and still is a concept Bu extends from her practice of stopping and gazing through the micro lens of a camera and smart phone since 2015. It is her daily ritual and an on-going project which adds to her moments of capturing and creating routine.

The durational performance accumulated in one month is then reflected with jingwei’s time based mapping technique.
